Is there a quarantine for pets arriving in Panama?
Yes. Home quarantine runs 40 days, and your animal serves it at your address rather than in a holding facility. If your paperwork is in order, it is released to you at the airport. Request home quarantine ahead of time and pay $130 per animal in cash on arrival. During the 40 days your pet stays on the property. No street walks, no public places, and no contact with other animals. Plan for that, not just the paperwork.
Can my dog fly in the cabin, or can I buy him a seat?
You cannot buy a seat for a dog. No US airline sells one, and this myth has put entire moves on hold. In-cabin travel means a carrier that fits under the seat in front of you, which rules out most dogs. Larger animals travel as cargo, and Copa is the route people use most often from North America. Confirm the current policy with the airline before booking anything.
Is there a 24-hour emergency vet in Panama City?
Less reliably than the advertising suggests. Several clinics carry a “24 horas” banner while publishing daytime-only hours on the same site. Emergency cover can be limited to one branch on weekday evenings. The strongest overnight capacity sits around Chanis and Campo Lindbergh, not in the Bella Vista corridor. Find your emergency clinic and save the number before you need it.
What does a vet visit cost in Panama City?
Private clinics do not publish consultation fees, so treat any figure you find online with suspicion. One published example: a low-cost clinic in San Miguelito charges $9 for a consultation and $6 for a rabies vaccine. Sterilization there runs $18 to $35. Private clinics run well above that. Will my building or landlord let me keep a dog?
